Knowledge Panel
A knowledge panel is the information box Google shows beside results for recognised entities such as companies, people and places. It is generated from the Knowledge Graph rather than your website, so you influence it indirectly rather than editing it.
Why it matters for your rankings
A knowledge panel is Google stating that it knows who you are as an entity, not merely that it has indexed your pages. That distinction increasingly determines whether AI systems will cite you confidently.
It also occupies substantial space on branded searches, pushing competitors and review sites further down at exactly the moment a prospect is checking you out. You cannot create one directly. Google assembles it from corroborating sources: your structured data, Wikipedia and Wikidata entries, business directories, news coverage and consistent facts repeated across the web. Contradictory information is the usual reason a panel is wrong or missing, which makes consistency work the practical lever.
How to check it on your site
Search your brand and check
Look for a panel on a branded search in an incognito window. Its absence means Google has not established you as a distinct entity.
Add Organization schema
Mark up your legal name, logo, founding date, address and sameAs links to verified profiles on your homepage.
Align your facts everywhere
LinkedIn, Crunchbase, directories and your About page should state the same founding date, address and description.
Claim the panel if it exists
Google lets verified representatives of an entity suggest corrections directly through the panel, which is far faster than waiting for its underlying sources to update.
